Oil Consumption - '89 740GL ? 700

Hello all,

I am wondering if it is normal for a reasonably tuned, B230F engine with 163000 mi. to use half a quart of oil every 2800 mi.? I am concerned that there may be excessive wear on this engine but not sure if this brick is on it's way to the grave (albeit slowly) even though some bricksters would consider my car just broken in. How much oil, if any does your brick use? Thanks in advance. Oh, does oil consumtion differ if the car was driven mostly on highway v.s. in the city (I was driving mostly on the highway at ~ 70mph).
