New owner with Question about Manuals 200

It has been recommended on this board to purchase the Bentley for a good service manual. My question as an individual with little to no personal car service capabilities is this: Do these manuals help you troubleshoot, find the source of the problem, & offer a you solution or just tell you how to find and replace different parts of the vehicle? I want to learn the in's & out's of my first Volvo, but I have absolutely no knowledge to work from. Thanks in advance.
