I have got 1986 740 Turbo non-ABS with Bendix. I recently had my
pads changed at a shop and they turned the rotors (I know, "to turn or
not to turn?"). When I was driving home I started to hear a thumping sound from the area near the pads. It turned out the pads had a tiny gap between the top/bottom ends and the caliper. They were moving up/down. I figured they didn't put the right pads to match the caliper and anti-rattle clip.
So I bought factory pads (update:longer nubs w/ brass pins) and anti-rattle clips from the dealer. First time I've installed pads and it went smooth. Car sounded quiet for the test drive. Then it started to thump AGAIN!!!
Talked to the most experienced mechanic at the dealer and he couldn't figure it out. I told him how I set up the pads/clip and he said it sounded like I did it correct.
What can I do to quiet this down?
