I sure feel like and idiot! I just replaced the engine in my daughter's 740GL, and while I was at it, replaced the ailing timing belt. It was a mess of wires, connection, hoses, sensors, etc. but I believe I got everything back into the right holes.
But it won't start! It's got compression, fire, and gas at least up to the injectors, but aside from an occasional belch or stumble, will not start and run. I've tried removing the bolts in the distributor to gain more timing freedom, I've double checked the cam timing marks (which are NOT that easy to see), I've lined up the marks on the pulleys carefully with the marks on the new belt, and I'm not sure what else could be wrong.
It seems all should work, but I'm wondering if the injector timing or computer is off. Could I have reversed the order on the injector leads? How would I know? Is there an easy way to determine if the injectors are working? I'm sorta at a loss.
By the way, on a few occasions, the motor has started just for a couple of seconds, sounded like it was running only on a couple of cylinders, and then died. Throttle position seemed to have little to do with how it ran. If this sound's like a computer problem, I might be doomed.
Any guidance you might have will be most highly appreciated.
THANKS!
