Kickdown Cable problems 200 1983

I have a 1983 240 Turbo with a AW71 transmission. I recently replaced a binding kickdown cable and followed the directions givin in the FAQ section on kickdown cables. Now the transmission does shift but very late and hard. This was not the case before the binding of the first cable wich leads me to think that it is not a problem with the transmission. I have made the adjustment to the extreme. It seems that the cable is to long but after comparing it to the original cable it is the same lenght. Are there any other adjustments that could have an effect on the shifting of the transmission that I am missing? Any help would be appreciated.
