RWD '91 740 TURBO Automatic Starts Up In Overdrive 700 1991

New to this forum. I have a '91 740 Turbo automatic wagon that will more often than not start up in overdrive except first thing in the morning. The light on the dash is on and cannot be switched off using the button. My husband is mechanically inclined so I'm hoping for some suggestions for him to try. Thanks for any input.
