Speedomoter cable 700

The wires going ino the speedometer sensor back by the transaxle broke off right at the connector with no excess. I reattached them the best I could an I am pretty sure I am making contact but the speedometer does not work. I even swapped the wires and that had no effect.

Any thoughts would be appreciated
