So ok, posted message couple weeks back about my smoking exhaust on 1996 940 turbo B230FT. Turned out to be turbo - so bought new one (yes, new one), and fitted it. What could be simpler?
1st turn of the key, fired up, no smoke perfect. Drove lovely. But when started to warm up, it stalled. Maybe it needs a good run, I thought, oil on oxygen sensor, etc.
Got worse!
To cut long story short:
Starts fine, ok when cold. Warms up, idle drops, and if you floor gas, and back off will just cut out..........rev counter, straight down, no hesitation, all dash lights on. Starts again fine. Occasionally, lamda light flickers, goes to stall, recovers, or 'ok' if apply gas. Still drives lovely on constant gas - until back off or hit brakes. Seems better if driving slower, gently apply brakes.
If there's an air leak, I can't find it..........all other pipes, intercooler, etc seem sound. But I've noticed if you rev really hard (car in neutral) can hear what I think is air mass meter - sounds like it's the flap 'bouncing'. It sounds likes it's rattling!
Help!!!!!!!!!!!
ps - turbo failed suddenly, car not driven till repaired, this problem not there before. Either I've caused it, or it happened when turbo failed while driving down motoroway at 85mph
