Drove my 1988 740GLE home the other night, the next morning it would not crank. An occasional click, then nothing. Checked and replaced the battery. Traced the battery cables - no nixs and contacts cleaned. Placed test light to small prong contact lead going to starter and engaged ignition switch - test light came on. And, according to my manual that indicates a problem in the starter - right or wrong?
Also when I engage the key ignition with headlights on, at the moment I turn the key the headlights go out and come back on when I release key. With headlights off and radio on, when key is turned radio goes off until key is released. Further, when I leave the ignition in the On position and listen under the hood I heard a low almost inaudible hum.
Would appreciate any guidance on where I may be going wrong or what am I missing. thanks.
One Amendment: When the key ignition is now engaged I get a clear clicking sound at the starter/silenoid ...again please help.
