I wish you could still type in the model year, as this fits into the [ALL][OHV] category.
Terrible racket from the engine turns out to be a timing gear failure. If you've never heard this, you have no idea how bad it is. I was c110% convinced that a bearing had disappeared and the journal and rod were flapping about.
Anyway, the car died as I pulled into the garage (a very lucky thing) and wouldn't start up. turns out valves are not moving. So I need new gears. Does the fiber gear function as a weak link at all, or does it matter? I'm planning on using steel unless I'm convinced otherwise.
Next question; I heard on this board once that Napa has steel gears for the B18/20/30 engines. What's the thought on the quality of these? Matt B had a set of steel gears fail that didn't look like Volvo gears, based on the pic. Where else does one find steel gears these days? Next autocross is the 14th and I need this engine running by then.
