First time ecu tester..could use advice... 700

Hi. I appear to have a wiring problem on my 86 740 230ft ( I hear this is not new..) I'd like to test for resistance through the FI temp sensor wiring. Unpluggin the connector at the sensor, then prodding an unplugged ecu connector( the part that comes off the main box) would tell me if there was a short in the wiring, wouldn't it?...I just bought a decent multimeter, and could use some experienced advice.

Also, are there numbers identifying the pins on either the ecu itself or on the "boot" under the rubber cap or something??? I understand bentley's has them, but I ain't got no Bentley's....?

Any help is apprec.!!! Josh.

P.s. If it helps, the damn
(but wonderful) car will start about once a day, run rough for 5 sec., run smooth for maybe 30 sec., then quits, rather abrubtly...like electricity, not fuel. New fuel press. reg., F.I. temp sensor, plugs, battery, belt tensioner, water pump, timed properly......... the wiring harness appears alright inside the wrap, but some, not all, of the wiring flaked out on me. Electric taped them, as nicely as i could, cleaned every connec. i could see..

help!
