Bricksters,
I am picking up a 1985 240GL project car this weekend. The PO states that a garage replaced the engine wiring harness and while doing so removed the harness connector from the ignition control unit (you know, the one that the manual says should not be removed as it has "special one way sleeves). The PO claims that the car had continuing no-start problems as a result, he states that he could "fiddle with" that connector and get it to start at one time, but no more.
My questions:
1) Is this connector part of the engine wiring harness? If so then the mechanic would have needed to remove it and so no problem unless he removed it again after installing a new one.
2) Short of replacing the entire harness is there a way to repair this connector? Replace the pins with some available from an electronics supply perhaps? Solder the pins straight on?
3) Anyone have a source on connectors, pins, harness?
4) Any ideas what else this problem may be? Or any thoug ts, hints, comments, sage or sarcastic words?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Best regards,
