90 240 w/ aw70 OD problem 1990

I am having problems with the overdrive on my 90 240DL wagon that I just got in January . The OD would go off at will occasionaly , w/ the light going on when this happened. The car would shift back into OD when it wanted to ,if I stopped and shut it off when I restarted the car it usually would be ok . Now it will not shift into OD at all with the light on or off. I hear no clicking from the seloniod . And the light still sticks on and goes off when it wants to. I see that changing the trans fluid is reccomended every 20,000 mi. I've no idea when this was last done, but the maint. records show regular maint by a dealer up to 140,000 mi. and it now has 170,000 . Thanks John
