Gunter, my 1984 240, has a cold-start problem: when I first start the car, the idle hunts, dropping off as if it's about to die, then catching itself, and repeating. Also, for the first block, it has a tendency to die if I come to a stop or let up on the gas. I replaced the fuel-injection water temp sender, to no avail. Frustrated and short of time, I took it to a local mechanic, who tested the compression, leak-down, vacuum leaks, valve clearance, timing, and idle; all fine. He did diagnose bad plug wires, and replaced these and the plugs. The problem still exists. He suggests the oxygen sensor may have gotten crudded up when the plug wires were bad (it's got about 7,000 miles on it). I haven't tried replacing that, but may, although I hate throwing money randomly at the problem. Ideas?
