Advice on Purchasing 1991 945 900 1991

My daughter just turned 16. It's time to put her behind the wheel of her own car. My neighbor has a 1991 Volvo 945 wagon for sale. It has 100k+ miles and he is asking $5000 for it. That is exactly my limit on what I can afford.

Now, I know my daughter is not too enthused about being seen in a "station wagon", but I like the safety it provides and the longevity of a Volvo (I just purchased a 97 850 GLT wagon). Do I spend my $5000 on the Volvo or look to spend it elsewhere? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks...
