Check Engine Light...Surprise!! 700 1990

Well, I now work at a Volvo dealership!

Anyhow, a mechanic there asked me if, on my current quest for little low-cost horsepower tricks, I'd removed the fine metal mesh from both sides of the air/fuel/oxygen sensor on top of my airbox. I said no, and...well, he told me to remove it but to be careful of touching the little fishing-line type wires (the actual sensor)

I didn't touch the wires with anything, I'm running a K&N filter, but after I reinstalled everything, the bloody check engine light came on...

The car seems to run fine, infact a bit "sharper", BUT I still have the mesh just in case...

Any ideas as to what the light may be??? (And no, the car is in perfect condition and was running excellent before!!)

Thanks, cheers...and other thanks!!
