Hi Guys n Gals -
In the past few weeks I have replaced the air hose on my 1988 244 B230F. I found it had a hole on the bottom of where it curves into the AMM. Looked like one of the high points on the corrugation was chafed through. I felt around under the hose and can't find anything that actually rubs on the air hose, maybe it just rots through after oil accumulation of 10 years.
I have checked the same spot on a number of 240's, two of mine and several in salvage yards, and that seems to be a weak spot on practically all on them.
The hole wasn't revealed with the carb cleaner spray system of check for vacuum leaks, either. I have installed an after-market part from Volvo Parts Independent here in Houston, about $21 or so.
Unless you repaired that hose, you might consider checking along the underside of that air hose for one or two holes. Touch lightly or use a mirror and light, the hole edges are sometimes sharp. Un-metered and dirty air can't help.
Regards,
Bob
