95 960 CRANK NO START 900

Hi everyone,
Just installed an a/c compressor after the clutch froze and threw the belt. The problem now is the engine cranks over but doesn't start. I disconnected the battery while doing the work and am wondering if anything needs to be reset in order to start. Also tried to start engine while gearselector in neutral position but wouldn't crank over. I read in the manual that it could be started in this position. There is also a strong smell of fuel after cranking over. I would greatly appreciate any advice, help or direction. Thanks!
