TRAILER HITCH WIRING 900 1994

I recently installed a Volvo trailer hitch on my 1994 960 sedan. I ordered the wiring harness kit from Volvo. I also ordered a convertor, part #1189936-6. The instructions that came with the wiring harness do not mention the convertor. Do I need to install this convertor? What does it do?
