M-46, 5th gear woes! 200

During a recent transmission repair, (dropping trans to remove trash that prevented proper shifting) I noticed that the o/d solenoid was leaking around the body. It was wasted from corrosion. I replaced solenoid with a replacement from IPD. Now I have intermittant 5th gear. Electrically checks out fine. Haynes manual suggest checking hydraulic pressures with an external gauge. What type/size connection? Any other suggestions? Thanks!
