Air in fuel line 1800 1971

I am getting air bubbles in the fuel line, it's a 71 1800e with a electric pump. I placed a temporary clear plastic line just after the pump and could see bubbles flowing. Could there be a leak in the pick up line in the tank? I know on some 240's there is a rubber hose in the tank that could cause this, but on the 1800 I think it's a solid tube. thanks. bob
