Clean your tank out 1800 1971

The tank seems to be clean now, I have gone through a dozen filters and most of the junk is gone now. but if the pick up tube has a pin hole leak it would need to be repaired. Do you think I could run the pick up tube to the drain plug on the very bottom of the tank and just plug the origanial up?
