Will These Shocks Come Off? 200

Bentley says to use new bolts/nuts for rear shocks replacement. I'm out in the garage with my new Boge Turbo Gas. They only get torqued to 40 ft-lbs. Not enough for the bolt to go plastic (stretch and remain elongated). Can I get by using the old bolts/nuts? TIA
