Oil leak in B21 200

Hi,

This is my first posting to this group - please let me know if I break
any rules.

I just bought a Triumph Spitfire with a Volvo B21A engine transplanted
in, and am having a few problems, and a few questions. The two
problems are 1) the carburettor is in rather bad shape, and 2) there
is an oil leak which baffles me.

The oil leak is on the exhaust side, and appears to be coming from the
vicinity of the lower exhaust manifold bolts on cylinders 1 and 4.
From pulling the plug wires off of these two cylinders I know that
they are running the worst of the four, but there is no smoke from the
tailpipes at all, so it doesn't seem that the engine itself is burning
any of the oil, it's just spilling it from there down the manifold and
onto the pipes - resulting in smoke in the cabin. With the top up, it
gets ugly! Any idea where that oil could be coming from? It's not from
the valve cover, there is no sign of it there. I looked for spray from
somewhere (anywhere!) else, but there is no sign of that, either. Oil
pressure is good - possibly too good, around 70psi at 2500-3000 RPM,
which may be related.

Any help is appreciated.

The other problem, with the carburettor, I can handle with a rebuild.
But because of the oil leak problem and the fact that I'd prefer fuel
injection, I'm considering putting the head and injection from another
B21(23?) engine I can get my hands on. This motor is coming from a 242
GLT of unknown year (owner says maybe 1984), but despite having a
boost guage on the dash, there is certainly no turbo under the hood.
It's got mechanical (K-Jetronic?) fuel injection, and the cylinder
head looks identical to the one in my engine - which leads me to
believe that someone carburetted a fuel injected head on my car. So -
to the question: Are the overhead cam B-series engines from North
America pretty interchangeable parts-wise? Can I put the head from
this fuel-injected engine on mine with reasonable hope of success?

Thanks for any input available - posting to the group or emailing me
privately.

Cheers,

Chris
