Turbocharger Gone Bad?!?!? (740 Turbo) 700 1989

Hey Everyone,

I've got a problem with my turbocharger. The car still has zip but I'm a little alarmed. It's a little lengthy explanation... for which I'm sure there's a semi-simple answer. Here it is: There's a hissing sound I hear, which sounds to be coming out by the gas and brake pedals. I can't hear it from the engine compartment. This only happens when the car is on. The hissing varies in loudness depending on acceleration. When my turbo gauge is dead on between the black and yellow bars, the hissing disappears. (Odd?). Here's another clue, over the past three days the turbo charger pressure on idle is consistently going up. It used to always be one eighth of the full circle, yesterday it was one-sixth of the way up, this morning it was already one third, and right now, the pointer at idle is sitting halfway between black and yellow, just a little off still allowing it to make a hissing sound.

A little confusing I know. ANY IDEAS?!?!? PLEASE I BEG YOU! I want to sell this thing soon. I love Volvos but this one is WAAAY to much work!

Thank you sooo much!!
