New Engine?!?! 200

Hello all, I am in quite a predicament and I'm hoping for some sound advice. I have a 1982 242 GLT, which my mechanic is trying to replace the cylinder head on. AS it stands he tells me that he cannot remove a bolt from the crank case and is telling me that if he cannot remove this bolt I might have to have the engine replaced. The body is in really good shape, as is the electrical system. In general, I haven't had any other problems with this car. The cylinder head was being replaced because previous repairs had left it with broken bolts and it could not be remachined. I'm not a gearhead so I hope this is making some sense.
Should I have the engine replaced if it comes to that? And if so, do you have any suggestions about where I might be able to find a comparable engine? Would it be best to replace it with a nonturbo?
If I decided to sell this car as a parts car -- how much could I reasonably expected to get from it?
As always, the boards advice is greatly appreciated!
:-(
