battery charge 700 1987

I recently didn't drive my car for a week, and when i tried to start it, there was no juice. there was enough for about two clicks of the starter. when jumping didn't start it, i decided it was time to replace the old, corroded battery that was in the car when i bought it. when the new battery went in, i started it right up and it ran fine. i checked it a few hours later and it still started up, but the voltage meter was a little lower on startup, but quickly came to the normal range after a few moments of running. the next morning, click... dead battery. after jumping it it ran fine again and the voltage was quicky normal, even under load of lights, radio, etc. the battery remains charged while running, leading me to believe the alternator is fine. my only conclusion is a short somewhere drains the battery while the car is off. but where?! does anyone have any third eye insight into finding this hidden drain; or perhaps another explanation? also, there is quite a bit of corrosion on the positive battery clamp which has not come off with the application of wd-40 and a wire brush. any ideas? thanks.
