Blown head gasket 700

I just recently had some problems with my car so i took it to my shop and they said that i had a blown head gasket and would have to replace it. i allready posted here about it so i know my options. My main question though is that would it be possible for me to replace it myself with a buddy helping? what exactly is involved and what tools would we need? I dont have much experience working on engines but think i could manage changing the gasket if its not too in depth. my friend knows a lot about cars, but mainly hondas and has changed the head gasket several times on those cars but never on a volvo and is not sure if he wants to tackle this project. My main reason for doing it myself is that im a college student and dont have too much money. if i do it myself it might take a lot of time but i could probably save close to $900.

any and all help is much appreaciated
Thanks in advance
Misha
