Hey all fellow brick owners.
I just had a few ideas as far as all the posts concerning the fuel pump relay, etc. Since I had the same problems a while back I just wanted to share, as I did earler, what I did. By observation I concluded that the problems were heat related. By experimentation I found that the stock relays especially fuel pump were very tempermental. I kept the stock relay, saving some 60 bucks instead of buying a new one and created a "mod" if you will that helps with cooling. I have found my method to be most aplicable to those who also have after market high power stereos in the dash. (because of high power amps and the heat they produce) So with some old parts from a computer (CPU and power supply fans) I created a simple circuit that turned the fans on when the car started. I mounted them in such a manner that they blew down on all my fuses and relays. They draw .001 amps at 12 V....so don't worry. They are quiet as a whisper too. Like it was said above, I also put some holes in the relay casing to allow better heat dissipation. It works like a charm, just wire them into any circuit, i.e. the cigarette ligher, and baaamm they turn on when the car turns on thus keeping it cool while driving around.
Peace,
steve
