I have an 86 740 gle. The shop told me that my front oil seals were leaking when I took it in for front end noise (was the bearings, re-packed). They told me that eventually the seals or something with the water pump would mushroom. So I decided to do the front seals myself, as well as do the timing belt while I'm in there since I don't know when the po did the belt.
When I was removing the all the accessory belts I ran into a problem with removing the third belt- the power steering. I loosed the tensioner deal and was unable to get slack in the belt. So I searched for something else holding the pump to the engine (I had the same problem with the air cond compressor.) I found a bracket that had 3 points, 2 on the pump and 1 on the engine. I tried to loosen the bolt on the engine, and it required a lot of force. I believe I stripped it because the bolt won't tighten down and it won't come out. This is my first experience with a problem like this. What should I do? How can I tighten the pump back down when I'm done? I'm following the chilton's and hayne's manuals.
I'm at a loss, please help,
Nate
