Voltage drop has me in the dark 200 1990

A week ago I was pulling my small accessory clock for repair. (Normal install with green, red and black wire connections.)
Two of the wires running to the clock touched and sparked momentarily with a resulting burning smell.

I now have the following symptoms:

With Head lights/Parking Lights On
* Dimmer rheostat turned on, the voltage drops completely (as indicated by my small voltmeter gauge)
* Interior turn signal indicators glow increasingly as rheostat is turned up
* Tach readings drop increasingly as rheostat is turned up
* A flash of the turn signal results in a large voltage drop

With Head lights/Parking Lights Off
* Rheostat turned up, volts increase slightly
* No glow of interior turn signals present

My voltage has been reading lower than before the problem, but
I have been able to drive the car for a week with the dimmer turned off. I appreciate any thoughts anyone may have. I am completely unknowledgeable about electrical issues so responses geared toward the ignorant will be appreciated.
