install voltage regulator-help!!!!!!!! 700 1985

Bought a new voltage regulator-I guess I didn't pay attention when I removed the old one. I need to know how to fit in into the opening. I don't want to force it.I noticed a split metal clip hanging from the top of the opening - not sure if it supposed to hold tension on the brushes or what?


Any help would be appreciated.
