the trick is... 700 1985

1) angle it into the opening by leaning the top towards the driver and pushing the brushes down onto the center column. It should now be inside the opening.

2) lever one side of the voltage reg. down slightly, and screw in that side of the voltage regulator.

3) once you have one side screwed in lever it down onto the center column with one hand while using the other to push the brushes up against the springs (to keep the brushes from getting wedged sideways against the center column).

a little tricky since you can't push down the arm above the brushes to push it down (due to the angle). Really a three handed job which is why its annoying.
