Hi! Hopefully you're not reading this twice - but 1st seems lost during that storm!!
Basically, changed steering box on my 1970 144 - merrily put 'new' one on, and then discovered the relay arm was similar, but not the same as original (too straight).
Box off, arm off (with difficulty!)did the swap - marked both arms on old and new boxes in relation to body of box when marks aligned on box and lower steering column, and put old arm on 'nwe' box in that position - and back on - but with road wheels straight ahead, marks on box out of centre. So, off again, relay arm off (and even though it had been off not half an hour before, what a job!!)
Box on, arm on loosely, lined up, all off, arm nut torqued up, etc. Guess what? When road wheels straight ahead, marks on box 90 degrees apart.
Am I missing something? I assume the road wheels need to be straight ahead, and box marked aligned - seems so simple - am I missing something?
Assume it's 'critical' that marks on box align with road wheels straight ahead.
Thanks,
Kevin
