240 temp guage

Just bought a 1990 240 DL, and the temp guage is not acting right. It keeps
drifting down in the low area of the guage. Incidentally, just had the
dealer put on a new timing belt, drive belts thermostat, and perform a tune
up, the guage worked properly right after I left the dealer and was a little
higher than the middle, but as soon as I got out on the freeway, it
drifted down into the lower part of the range again. Any ideas on what it
might be? Is it a DIY project? thanks for any help. HT
