Need advice on door open switch… 200

The driver side door open switch is non functional in my “new” 84 GL. I was able to easily pull a good switch from my old GLT, but on the GL I can’t get it more then 1/2" out before what feels like the limit of the wires behind it. I tried reaching around under the dash, but it feels like there’s something between the switch and the dash area. How can I get the switch out and swapped without loosing the wires into oblivion? Anyone have some input here? Thanks!
