83 240 hard starting 200

Lately, I have to crank the engine 2 times before it started. What was wrong?and where should I look?
Once, it backfired in the intake manifold and blew the air control valve hose off that I have to plug it back on. What was causing it to happen? The spark plugs are clean and battery is good/
