It wasn't last week's highlight when the heater valve ('90 740gle) broke and sent the coolant onto the freeway. Before I could get pulled over the temp gauge was pegged at 'nuclear core' and blew the head gasket. The head warped and needed to be machined flat to reinstall. Mechanic says all is well though he's clearly not a fan of this dohc engine. Gas mileage has declined about 15%. I know only enough about engines to know that the head is full of valves, cams, and other 'stuff' but its got me thinking: if the head warped, it's now "bowed", right? And what about all those moving parts which were designed to function in a straight head? Am I now driving a ticking time bomb? What's down the road for this car? Signed: Skeptical Pilot.
Thanks. Geoff S.
