Spiral spring in window mechanism - '88 745

When I took the right front door of our '88 745 GLE apart I found a spiral spring in bottom of the door.

I figured out that this spring attaches in the center of the quadrant-shaped gear that lifts the window.

The rub -
Is it possible to put this spring back in place without removing the lift assembly?
When viewed from the inside of the door, does the spring wind clockwise or counter-clockwise? In other words, how do I orient the spring when I try to insert it?

For example - "Hold the spring so it winds clockwise and the hook on the end at 3 o'clock when you put the spring in. Do this with the window up."

I can take the other door apart and look at the spring, but I do not want to waste my time, as I think that I could figure out the spring's position if I remove the lift assembly.

I have read the appropriate FAQs and done a search with no useful results.

Thanks for your time.
