WD40...a word of caution... 900

Hi guys,

over the past couple of months (my time on the forum) I have seen lots of people advocating WD40 (most recently in connection with window switches)I have a couple off issues here..and these are really words of warning...

I believe WD40 is heavily silicon based, if you EVER want to paint anything that has been in contact with the smallest particle of this prepare your self for a LOT of panel wipe! also bear in mind it can eat into paint and give you all sorts of interesting problems..the best one I have seen being paint that goes on fine..then 'fish eyes'. I believe in some body work shops to be found in possesion is an instant sack offence...

Also beware of lubricating cables with it. If the cable is nylon lined I am told that it can actually cause the liner to expand making the cable jam more...

All the above said I still use it myself...but I am DAMN carefull about where and how! Like most things excellent for its intended use...

PS if anyone fancies trying it spray some on a spare but of tim...then try painting it...really pretty effects!
