hi - i have benefitted from a lot of the technical advice on steering rack
replacement and other issues so thankyou - my problem is that with all the
time spent info gathering and part pricing i am still driving an 86 240 with a bad (major seal leak) power rack - i already unhooked the belt to save the pump.
By the time i get a part sent and put it in or pull from the junkyard it could be / will have been over a month since the fluid was drained - what are the immediate and eventual safety issues with a rack in this condition, loose steering-shaft u-joint, lots of play in steering wheel, probably bad tie-rods ends, torn boots, etc...?
i'm thinking of spending the $550 or more for a shop so it gets done in short order
anybody who doesn't have a back-up brick for parts runs, going to work
had these debates?
