87 740 Turbo ignition troubles 700 1987

Hi. My car recently died while driving on the interstate. The shop
replaced the coil and dist cap, as well as the high tension wire. The
problem of starting the car still persisted and they said the ignition
module was burned out, and that another one they installed burned out
as well. So they informed me that the engine harness would have to be
replaced. This is original harness and there for on of the crumbling
wires one. I am in the process of replacing the harness, but before I
buy a new ignition computer, I am wondering if there is a way to check
if a new one would burn out as well; such as appropriate voltages for
each pin so I can check. Or is the harness most likely the cause of
the short? In their vagueness they didn't specify the computer near
the driver kick board (bosch 261201012) or the little amplifier (bosch
227100124) mounted on the wall by the battery. Would they both need
replacing?
Thank you much for any information you can provide,Joel
