'Volvo' branded shocks by Monroe? 140-160

at 29 years and 76,000 miles, I felt the shocks on my 142 were shot, so I replaced them.

Imagine my surprise when I cleaned the crud off the OE shocks and found they were stamped, "Volvo", "Monroe", and "made in Belgium".

Was Monroe once a good-quality brand or something?
