Did (late) 544 production years have oe front disc brakes? 444-544

...my experience with this model is limited, but I seem to recall that early 122s had drums up front and late 544s had discs...I also seem to recall a past thread dealing with possibly updating a drum equipped 544 with 122 steering knuckle and discs. Can someone who is certain about this subject confirm this or give known correct info on what variations factory put out, and what upgrades are possible, or point me to an info source.
