Ball joints reversed, effects on alignment and remedies? 200 1982

I'm pretty sure I put my balljoints in on the wrong sides of the car when I did my front end as while back. I put them back the way I found them which is with the ends angled toward the rear of the car. The alignment guy told me it all came into spec but I'm wondering if he didn't check the caster, perhaps because it's not adjustable. Anyway, the car doesn't track very well now. I suppose I should put them back in properly.

Can I just unbolt the whole balljoint/bracket assembly from each side and let the suspension hang on the struts? or do I need to borrow that miserable spring compressor again?

TIA,
Bob
