Harmonic whistle under poer

My '83 245 (195K) has an odd noise under power, something like a harmonic whistle in a mid range tone, sometimes with the clutch in or out, frequency is steady, clutch is 40K old, carrier bearing is original, any thoughts, not too loud but don't want the driveline to lock up, rear diffy's are pricey.
