Here's a strange one:
Last week I stopped to put gas in my '89 745GL after driving around town for about an hour. It was about 75 degreees F out, the AC was on low. When I tried to put gas in it I could only get about 1.5 gallons in, even though I know for a fact that it was half-empty (I'd driven about 160 miles since I last filled it). Then when I started it up to move to another pump (thought the pump was broken), the Check Engine light stayed on until I gave it some gas.
So, I drove it straight home & left it for the weekend (the last time the Check Engine light came on like that I got stranded half an hour later due to what the tow truck driver said was vapor lock--turned out my in-tank pump was going south). I had to get the pinion seal replaced anyway, so I took it to my shop today and asked them to look it over (incidentally the Check Engine light did NOT stay on when I started it to drive it to the shop). They searched high and low and couldn't find anything wrong with it. There weren't even any stored fault codes. So, should I worry? Could it be a failing radio suppression or fuel pump relay? Or is my car posessed? I just don't want to get stranded again. TIA--
