If the problem keeps happening, I'd look into it. Basically the vent passes right past the filler pipe if you can get it exposed (depending, wagon or sedan).
Occasionally the car can have a bad hot start for any million and one reasons. I would NOT try to disturb the idle speed, but you might want to clean the throttle body and make sure that the throttle position switch is functioning properly. That alone could cause a strange condition on starting, which could make it seem coincidental to a lot of other things when in fact it might not be.
