Help! I recently changed my brake pads because the old ones were beginning to squeak badly every time I applied the brake. The old pads were pretty worn. I replaced them with pads from autozone (Albany brand I believe). I also applied a coating of that blue anti sqeal compound to the back of the new pads just for good measure. I reinstalled the shims that were on there with the old pads. The front brakes had a single shim per pad, that was coated with some sort of plastic material. The rear brakes had two shims per pad. one coated in the plastic stuff (this was closest to the pad) and one bare metal one i(this was between the plastic-coated shim and the brake caliper) Anyhow, now that it is all back together the back brakes squeal and screech worse than ever... I've had passangers who were actually afraid that the car was careening out of control into a busy intersection. So, to avoid giving my passengers heart attacks, and to make all of the other motorists stop staring at me, so if anyone has any advice on how to end this screeching problem it would be greatly appriciated.
BTW. Forgot to mention...My brick is a 1991 240 sedan, 199,371 miles (almost 200k : ). It does not have ABS.
