Speedometer problems 700

I have a 1990 Volvo 740 GL, the speedometer has jumped around for about a month( only when going over a bump in the road) and finally quit today. I have read what people have had to say on brickboard.com but when I took the cluster out and under the dash, I played with all the wires and connections and nothing seems to make it work. One guy told me it was the cable going into the transmission? I don't know how to look for that? What should I do? Should I just take the cluster to a speedometer specialist ?
